Potential superstar Royal Aclaim for trainer James Tate is now being targeted at the Group One Nunthorpe Stakes at York in August of the back of her Listed City Walls rout.
Seen three times in her career to date making her debut at Newcastle last term as a juvenile she went on to win impressively seeing off the likes of Group One winner Perfect Power, Robasta and Fearby.
Returning as a three year old this term she picked up from where she left off at Bath in a Novice Stakes winning very easily over the 5f and the third and fourth have since come out and franked the form.
Royal Aclaim at the weekend made the step up into Listed class at York over the Nunthorpe trip and saw off a proven field of sprinters with ease to land the City Of Walls Stakes by an easy two lengths and that has really put her on the map as a sprinter to follow.
She barely got out of third gear and the Tate yard are now very excited as to how good she can be with the Group One Nunthorpe next on the agenda.
(Credit ATR) “I’m still floating! She was great,” said Tate.
“It’s been a long road to get her back and for her to pass that test with flying colours was great.“I’d like to think there is a good bit of improvement sill in her and all roads to the Nunthorpe.
“We discussed potential plans with Sheikh Juma, her owner, and we just felt squeezing Goodwood in between now and York would be a touch ambitious and we wanted to keep our eyes on the main prize – that being the Nunthorpe.
“She’s effectively won a trial for the Nunthorpe and she has been delicate in the past, so we didn’t want to do too much. Also, quite frankly, she is such a natural – she doesn’t need any more education and experience like some others do.
“She is something else and it was incredible for her to do that on just her third start and the great thing is that we feel there is so much more left in the tank.”
