Curragh Sunday Preview - 19/07/20

The Fillies Maiden kicks off Sunday's action at the Curragh over seven furlongs and we believe Snowfall for Aidan O'Brien deserves another chance.

The juvenile has the most experience in the field racing twice, compared to the other runners who have only been seen once or are having their debuts.

On debut this two year old gave a bold showing to finish third Behind two sprinting stars that have gone on to frank that form.

She was stepped up in trip to seven furlongs on her latest outing and she ran no kind of race and it is worth giving her second chance off the back of her debut run.

You don't see many JP McManus runners on the flat but this three year old in the fillies handicap could be tough to beat if improving.

Trainer by Joseph O'Brien the filly has been fairly consistent throughout her career with two wins and a place from her five outings.

Last time out over a mile at the Curragh she got off the mark for the season in a very similar event and if handling the bump up in weight should be in the frame again.

The first big event of the day sees a fascinating field of runners head to post for the Group Two Airlie Stud Stakes over six furlongs.

Aidan O'Brien has two strong chances in this event and they have to be respected but Frenetic for Ger Lyons has not stopped improving and deserves her chance in this company.

The juvenile is unbeaten on both her starts to date landing a decent maiden at Navan on debut and then improving from that to win again at the Curragh in a Listed event.

She will have to come again for what she has done previously with this field being her toughest yet but she looks a star in the making.

A notable English Raider takes the eye in the Group Two Sapphire Stakes with A'Ali for Simon Crisford making the trip to the Curragh for this event.

Crisford is not known for sending horses over to Ireland but is looking to gain quick-fire back to back wins for last seasons Norfolk Stakes winner, who scored at Sandown on Eclipse day in the Group Three Coral Charge.

As a juvenile the son of Society Rock was a superstar landing a hat-trick of wins in Group Two company which included the before mentioned Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot, the Prix Robert Papin at Deauville and finally the Flying Childers Stakes at Doncaster.

He finished his two year old career at the Breeders Cup meeting with a tame run and he did not improve on that run on his three year old seasonal debut at Newcastle when obviously needing the run.

The Coral Charge at Sandown showed him back to his best and we think he has a huge chance of landing more Group Two glory in this race.

The Group Two Kilboy Estate Stakes over 1 mile 1 furlong has one stand out runner for us who has been highly progressive in everything she has done on the track so far.

One Voice for Jessica Harrington has had four starts to date, looking very smart as a juvenile when finishing second on debut at Leopardstown before breaking her maiden tag next time out.

The three year old stepped up to 1 mile 2 furlongs in a Listed event Navan and finished a bold second on her seasonal debut and having improved for that run won the Group Three Blue Wind Stakes.

That looks some of the best form on offer and if continuing to run in the same form will be in the mix.

The one mile Premier Handicap sees 14 similar runners head to post but the one that takes the eye for us is the Dermot Weld trained Baraniya.

This three year old could really turn out to be anything and looks interesting on handicap debut having shown plenty of promise on both her starts.

As a two year old the filly finished sixth of 19 runners in a competitive maiden and when returning for her seasonal debut this season she had improved massively and landed a Fillies Maiden at Roscommon.

Her mark might be slightly high but she holds bundles on potential and could be a star.

With no bet in the last race of the day this is our final selection of the meeting and Aidan O'Brien fields the frustrating Hyde Park Barracks.

Although being tough to back previously this race looks more of an easier task to get off the mark and we believe he will use his past experiences to do so.

The two year old has raced four times this season, showing ability in some races then looking lazy in others, if turning up to his best he should go close.
