Friday Night Under The Lights - 04/01/2018

17:00 - Stanhope

The opening race at Dundalk is the BetVictor Handicap over the flying five furlongs, and Stanhope can follow up his course and distance success from last month.

Since then he finished second at the same venue over six, so a return to five certainly looks a boost.

Looks a leading player for a trainer looking for his first winner since Christmas.

17:30 - Queluz

Despite being a beaten favourite here last month, Queluz can handle top weight again to go one better in the BetVictor Handicap (45-65).

He has not found the back of the net since May of 2018 which was over a mile, and a return to this trip looks favourable - just like our selection in the first.

Regular at this track, and sure to go close.

18:00 - Empire Line

Empire Line is the selection in a tricky looking BetVictor Maiden.

The 3yo has had two starts for J A Stack, both of which here at Dundalk. The form of his course second over seven furlongs has worked out well, but has something to prove back over six.

Owned by leading figures in the game, so they must think something of him, with a notable jockey booking.

Claims.

18:30 - Ahlan Bil Zain

Ahlan Bil Zain has won a third of his nine all-weather outings, and looks a leading player in the BetVictor Rated Race for Martin Halford.

The 4yo was a recent winner here two weeks ago when winning over this distance on the standard surface, beating some useful enough recruits.

Also won here in October last season, and will be sure to go close again.

19:00 - Rips Dream

Rips Dream has form figures of 2121 in his last four racecourse appearances - all of which Dundalk, and will hope it will be another 1, not 2 next to his name after the completion of the BetVictor Handicap.

Has had a little layoff since his victory here back in November, and appears to be relishing the all-weather surface in comparison to the turf, where he was unplaced in five starts.

Should be there or thereabouts once more.

19:30 - Bright Eyed

Brighty Eyed sports some recognisable colours, and makes her debut on the all-weather for Dermot Weld in the BetVictor Maiden.

This trip is likely to suit on this sort of surface for this 4yo daughter of Galileo, and has the assistance of a first-time hood.

Regular jockey Declan McDonogh is aboard.

20:00 - Spanish Dawn

Spanish Dawn is another name arriving at Dundalk on Friday off the back of a recent course win, and is hard to rule him out again in this feisty affair.

A 9/1 winner beating one of our other selections Queluz from the second race, and we believe the form looks solid enough to provide us with two winners.

Spanish Dawn - the 4yo, would look to be waited to with at the rear, so expect a late surge.

20:30 - Every Breath

The final race on the card is Division II (after Div I) of the BetVictor Handicap, and Every Breath can round things off for us under the lights.

The 3yo drops back in trip after his recent fifth over two furlongs further, and returns to the distance which saw him finish first and second in November.

Another who has primed on the all-weather surface - the slower surface, and another good effort is expected here.
