Goodwood Sunday Preview - 09/06/19

14:00 - Mubhij

The first race of the day is the Class 3 Handicap over seven furlongs and we have gone for the Roger Varian trained Mubhij to land the spoils.

Varian is a trainer in great form so far this season and will be wanting to keep his good run up and with this gelding already winning nicely on his seasonal debut there is no reason why he can't double it up.

He is a lightly raced four year old that looks a bright prospect for the yard only finishing outside the top two in one of his four runs to date and although up in the weights could be tough to beat.

15:05 - Paper Star

The next selection from us runs in the Class 3 Selling Stakes over five furlongs and Paper Star for trainer Archie Watson is a very consistent filly.

This juvenile has only raced three times in her career but looks to have the edge over the rest of the field as some are making there debut and are even less experienced then our pick.

All her runs have come in May with two good seconds and a third with her latest run being the stand out performance when second at Hamilton on good to soft so on Sunday she will have conditions to suit.

15:40 - Orin Swift

Next up we have another Class 3 Handicap but this time over the marathon distance of two miles. We have selected the Jonathan Portman trained orin Swift to carry on his good form.

This five year old gelding looks to have a great chance in this contest not finishing outside of the top two places on all of last four starts.

This season he has been at his best especially liking a bit of cut in the ground which he will get at Goodwood on Sunday. Last time he landed a Class 3 at Ascot over the same trip which makes him tough to beat.

16:45 - Shrewdness

The penultimate selection of the day is the Class 4 Fillies Novice Stakes and we have chosen the Queen's horse Shrewdness to take the spoils.

This three year old filly for William Haggas has only ran twice in her career, once last season which was nothing to shout about but this season she has come to life.

On her seasonal debut and only start of the year so far she finished a narrow second at Lingfield over 1 mile 2f and if learning from that race will be one to watch.

17:15 - Sir Busker

The final horse of the day that we fancy at Goodwood is the top weighted Sir Busker in the Class 5 Handicap and this William Knight trained runner holds a big chance.

This three year old gelding has ran to a fair standard recently even though his record might not show the same and his fourth at Ascot last time out reads well for this race.

That came over six furlongs on soft ground and with rain due to come that could play to his favour and the added furlong on Sunday should also be a positive.
