The Mrs Paddy Power Mares’ Chase is Grade two Handicap that takes place on the final day of the Cheltenham Festival. It is the penultimate race of the week and the final race for regular jockeys, with the final race of the meeting only open to conditional jockeys.
The race is ran on the new Cheltenham course, over a distance of 2 miles and there 17 fences for the runners to face.
The handicap rating to qualify for the race changes year on year however horses must be aged at least five in order to run in the race and there is a purse of £67,524 to the winner.
The Mrs Paddy Power Mares' Chase, also known as the Liberthine Mares' Chase, is a relatively new and exciting addition to the prestigious Cheltenham Festival, first gracing the prestigious racecourse in 2021. This Grade 2 National Hunt chase offers a dedicated platform for showcasing the prowess of top-class mares aged five years and older.
The race was established to encourage ownership and training of high-quality mares in National Hunt racing, ensuring the future success and diversity of the sport. The winner receives a significant prize purse of £67,524, attracting top trainers and jockeys to compete with their best mares.

The Mrs Paddy Power Mares' Chase has a short history but has already seen some impressive winners:
2023: Impervious, trained by Colm Murphy and ridden by Brian Hayes, became the first mare to win the race twice. She displayed her resilience and experience to secure victory at the age of seven.
2022: Elimay, trained by Willie Mullins and ridden by Mark Walsh, dominated the field with a commanding performance. This marked the second consecutive win for trainer Willie Mullins, demonstrating his expertise in developing top-class mares.
2021: Colreevy, also trained by Willie Mullins and ridden by Paul Townend, secured the inaugural victory in the race's first year. This win solidified Willie Mullins' reputation as a leading trainer in the National Hunt scene.
It's interesting to note that Willie Mullins has trained two out of the three winners so far, showcasing his dominance in developing successful mares for this prestigious race. Additionally, two of the winners have been ridden by jockeys associated with the Mullins yard, further highlighting their collaborative success in this event.
