Sir AP McCoy

Ex Gold Cup, Grand National and 20 time consecutive Champion Jockey Sir AP McCoy had his say on the 2023 Grade One Gold Cup at the Cheltenham festival on the latest episode of William Hill's racing show the Inside Track.

The racing legend alongside other Gold Cup winning Jockey Barry Geraghty and host Kate Tracey discussed why the favourite Galopin Des Champs will be very tough to beat, contrary to the statement that he might not stay out the trip.

From what this gelding has shown so far he has got the lot, he jumps incredibly, he has pace to get away from the field but he has also has shown stamina being a three mile Grade One winner over hurdles.

He should be unbeaten over fences if it wasn’t for that freak fall in the Turners last year, his two wins at Leopardstown last season were breath taking especially in Grade One company at the DRF and then he finished last season by landing the Gold Cup Novice Chase at Fairyhouse.

On his seasonal debut this season he showed us he settled better, jumping more economically and just looking for a step in trip when making a mockery of the Grade One John Durkan Chase field.

Stepping up to three miles for the Grade One Irish Gold Cup at the Dublin Racing Festival on Saturday he went on to see off stablemate Stattler by eight lengths.

It is now all systems go for the Gold Cup at the Cheltenham festival with him currently the stand out favourite for the race at odds of 6/4 with William Hill.

Sir AP McCoy believes he is the early favourite and although having not been seen over the Gold Cup trip, the record breaking ex rider believes thinks he will get it and win the pinnacle at this seasons meeting.
