1. Dashing Willoughby

Trainer - Andrew Balding

Jockey - William Buick

The first runner of the day is the well exposed three year old colt for Andrew Balding who would have to put in a huge career best on ground he doesn't like to be involved here.

He won at Ascot on soft ground in the Group Two Queen's Vase at the Royal meeting but with quicker ground on offer at Doncaster and better horses to contend with he can be opposed.

2. II Paradiso

Trainer - Aidan O'Brien

Jockey - Padraig Beggy

The first of the O'Brien horses is II Paradiso with the 2017 Derby and 2018 Irish Derby winning jockey Padraig Beggy taking the ride.

This progressive three year old hasn't done to much wrong but be up against some quality horses, he finished a strong third last time out to Stradivarius in the Lonsdale Cup which is a now form line entering this one.

The trainer has won the last two renewals of this race and has a great chance to make it a hat-trick but this colt would have to more than he previously has to be in the frame.

3. Logician

Trainer - John Gosden

Jockey - Frankie Dettori

The favourite Logician for John Gosden looks a class apart the rest of this field with he three year old colt having four starts to date and is unbeaten in all of them, only featuring in Class 3 and 4 races before landing the Group 2 Great Voltigeur Stakes.

The St Leger has been the plan for along time with this grey and Gosden has said he has came out of York in fine fettle and is ready for his first Group One test.

The step up in trip should play to his strengths and he has been heavily backed all week which could see him go off as odds on.

4. Nayef Road

Trainer - Mark Johnston

Jockey - Andrea Atzeni

The first of Mark Johnston's assault on the race is Nayef Road who looks to have a really difficult task off the back of his last run in the Great Voltigeur Stakes but now up in trip it needs to help him improve.

He ran well in soft conditions over 1 mile 6f so should stay the trip but the drying ground is a concern and his best performances have come over shorter.

Can be opposed.

5. Sir Dragonet

Trainer - Aidan O'Brien

Jockey - Donnacha O'Brien

Sir Dragonet looks to be his trainers best chance in the race with the three year old only starting his career off this year and made big strides when landing his first two races and went to Epsom as the Derby favourite.

He finished a good fifth that day never really getting involved in the closing stages but has now been stepped up in trip and is said to be in the form of his life at home.

He ran poorly last time out at the Curragh in a Group Three contest but should be much fitter for the run and could have a big say in the proceedings.

6. Sir Ron Priestley

Trainer - Mark Johnston

Jockey - Franny Norton

The Mark Johnston trained Sir Ron Priestley who has won five of his six starts this season with the only blemish on his record coming at Royal Ascot.

He is stepping up to Group One level for the first time like many others in this contest but has been one of the most progressive horses of the season and is primed for another big run looking for his fourth straight victory.

Last time he won a nice event at Goodwood over 1 mile 6f so he will definitely get the trip in the St Leger but whether he will be able to handle the quicker pace is the question that needs answering.

7. Technician

Trainer - Martyn Meade

Jockey - Rob Hornby

Technician looks to be a very interesting horse for Martyn Meade who could look to enter the frame from a place persepctive if running to his best form.

He heads here off the back of a good win in the Group Three Geoffrey Freer Stakes at Newbury last time which is nice form but he looks like he needs some rain to be a serious contender in the race.

8. Western Australia

Trainer - Aidan O'Brien

Jockey - Michael Hussey

The final runner of the race and the last of the O'Brien trio is Western Australia who as a two year old was a smart runner finishing a good third at Doncaster in the Racing Post Trophy.

Since then he has never lived up to his potential with constant underwhelming performances and he looks to be a pacesetter for the other two runners from his yard.
