Tahiyra

Dual Group One winning filly Tahiyra for trainer Dermot Weld is now being targeted at the Matron Stakes back in Ireland after her superb performance at Royal Ascot.

The three year old daughter of Siyouni, Tahiyra has been seen just twice on the world stage to date, making her debut at Galway in emphatic style when bolting up by lose to six lengths, she was then saved for the Group One Moyglare Stud Stakes at the Curragh.

Taking on the proven superstar Meditate, she travelled into the race beautifully before breezing past the Aidan O'Brien trained filly to win with any amount in hand.

A star was officially born after that performance and this season she returned in similar form when being well backed ahead of the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket but could not manage to pass Mawj for Saeed bin Suroor.

It was second time lucky in the Irish 1000 Guineas where she put away the talented Meditate to land the spoils and at Royal Ascot she made it back to back Group One Successes when taking the Coronation Stakes in workmanlike style.

She will now have a small break before being aimed at more Group One glory in the Matron Stakes at Leopardstown.

“The Matron Stakes would certainly be a race we would definitely consider,” said Weld on the Dublin track’s website.

“Tahiyra has come out of last week well and is going on a short break at the moment and no decision has been made about her autumn campaign, but obviously the Matron Stakes will be given very serious consideration.”
