Throwback Race Of The Day For Monday - 31/01/22

Irish Gold Cup

Today we are taking a look back at the Grade One Irish Gold Cup with the Dublin Racing Festival the key meeting of the weekend and all week we will be going through last year big races.

Five runners went to post last year for the Irish Gold Cup, with many expecting Minella Indo to bounce back to form, but it was the Willie Mullins trained Kemboy who landed the event in gritty style.

Jumping the last it looked as though it was all to play for but in the final stages of the race Kemboy went clear of the reliable The Storyteller and Delta Work to land the spoils.

Minella Indo and Melon were back in fourth and fifth, with the former going on to win the Gold Cup in March last yeat after this event.

Kemboy over the last few years has been primed at this contest and this year's renewal looks no different having finished a good third in the Savills Chase over the same course and distance.

Enjoy!
