Who To Follow On Day Five Of Glorious Goodwood - 31/07/21

Horse To Follow - Wonderful Tonight

Wonderful Tonight is a well fancied favourite for the only Group race on day 5 of Glorious Goodwood, The Langtry Stakes and rightly so given that the runner is on a bid for a straight 4 timer and should relish soft conditions come race day.

The daughter of Le Havre was a dual Group 1 winner on her final run last season in France and at Ascot and returned to action with a comfortable 1 1/2 length win in the Hardwicke Group 2 at Ascot last month.

She's entitled to improve for that comeback run and given she isn't stepping up into Group 1 company on her 2nd run back, a 3lb penalty doesn't look enough to stop her from recording another comfortable win in this.

Trainer To Follow - David Menuisier

Trainer David Menuisier is well-asserted Goodwood specialist, especially given his 26% strike rate at the course.

His well fancied favourite in the weeks opener, Migration, ran out a comfy winner for supporters who are now treated to 2 more well backed Menuisier favourites on Day 5.

Wonderful Tonight is a multiple Group 1 winner and decides not to step up on her Group 2 success on her seasonal return last time out at Ascot to have another crack of things in this grade, this time in the Langtry Stakes.

Menuisier's 2nd favourite of the day comes directly before that race in the 14:30, by which the in-form Nuits St Georges should relish conditions and returns to a well suited C&D to be competitive.

Jockey To Follow - William Buick

As the current leading jockey for the week, it's only right we mention William Buick as the jockey to follow on day 5 of the festival.

Currently on 5 winners for the week, Buick has continued his fine run at Goodwood this season, boasting a staggering 43% strike rate at the track.

He sits 2 winners ahead of closest rival Hollie Doyle (3) and he'll be keen to solidify proceeding as the weeks top jockey on the final day with a decent string of rides including on board well fancied odds on favourite, Wonderful Tonight.

It's also been reported that it is William Buicks wedding day this Sunday and here at TWE we would like to wish the rider all the best on his big day; let's hope he sees the week off with a few more winners.
