Siskin was the top two year old in Ireland last season, seeing off all competition in his four starts including landing his trainers first ever Group One in the Phoenix Stakes at the Curragh.

He extended his unbeaten run to five races when landing his trainers first Classic win over in Ireland, taking the Irish 2000 Guineas.

That was on his first step up to a mile and he seemed to revel in the extra distance, any run reproducing that form sees him as the one to beat.

The unknown entity of the race is Mohaather for Marcus Tregoning who looked to one of the big hard luck stories of Royal Ascot in the Queen Anne Stakes when getting no run and never running his true race.

Still holding all that potential he put the form figures right over the same course and distance at Ascot in the Group Two Summer Mile last time out.

He pulled away from a smart field really nicely and looking like the most improving horse in the mile division, although not holding the same form line as some of these, he should give a bold showing.

Having been supplemented late for this contest last season, it seems this race has always been the target this term having started his year off in the Group Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot, winning it well.

Circus Maximus has proved himself time and time again in these mile black type events, if not winning always hitting the frame and although this looks a strong renewal he is capable of going well again.

Having finished second to Too Darn Hot last season he will be looking to go one better this season.

Andrew Balding

Days: 25

The three year old at the back end of his juvenile career beat a decent field of youngsters at Newcastle in the Vertem Futurity Stakes.

On his seasonal reappearance he ripped apart an even better field in the 2000 Guineas, showing some serious pace to beat the other runners which included champion two year old Pinatubo.

He was stepped up in trip for the Epsom Derby and with many thinking the horse would not stay they and is better at a mile, they were right as he could only finish fourth.

Stepping back to a mile and coming out of the Epsom Classic in good order means this horse should not be discounted whatsoever.

The forgotten horse in this event is the Aidan O'Brien trained Wichita who could just be a big price at 15/2 having only been a narrow loser in both his events this term.

In the 2000 Guineas he went down to Kameko by a neck and then came back for the St James's Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot and again finished a narrow third behind Pinatubo and Palace Pier.

He will need to improve again for those runs but having come on a bundle since his juvenile days, he can not be discounted.

O'Brien's third and final runner on the day is the second in the Irish 2000 Guineas Vatican City who will have to come on a fair bit to get involved here.

Having finished a staying on second in the Irish Classic event at the Curragh, big things were expected of him in the Epsom Derby when stepping up in trip, but he could only finish a midfield eighth, never getting into the race.

The Ballydoyle maestro has dropped him back to a mile for this event and he will have to be better than what he has produced this season, but still holds big potential off the back of his second at the Curragh.

Roger Varian

The final runner of the Group One event is the big outsider San Donato for Roger Varian who looks to be a nice type in his own right but could be outclassed in this field.

Only racing once last year as a three year old, he came back from a long break to finish second to Mohaather in the Summer.

He will come on for that run but not enough to get involved here you would say.
