It was a great day for some punters at Kempton on Wednesday evening as more than £30,000 was paid out to a £1 stake as a Tote jackpot pool of £740,000 was won from the racing on the all weather.
The Tote jackpot had not been won for over nice days which saw the prize money roll over to £220,000 before racing on Wednesday, but after the 4pm deadline with punters getting their bets on the prize pool reached £740,573.25 and it saw the biggest amount on offer since August 2018.
The night started off badly for punters with Andrea Atzeni breaking the hearts of favourite backers when getting up late in the day to win the event on Mutahamisa and dent Touchwood into second, which his saw 82 percent of the potential winners of the prize knocked out in the first event.
However, it got better for punters with the next three races seeing favourably backed 9/2, 11/4 and 100/30 priced horses win their contests and this was also helped with the best backed horse of the day, Mostawaa for James Doyle, won with one race to go.
This meant that most people left in to win the jackpot were hoping that favourite Tipperary Jack could produce the goods, but it was not to be and Soar Above for trainer John Butler landed the spoils.
This saw the dividends go from potentially being split at £7,500 for each £1 up to £30,000, with the £740,000 jackpot being one of the biggest claimed in recent history.
(Credit Racing Post) Susannah Gill Tote Communications and Corporate Affairs Director, said: "It's fantastic to have had such a big jackpot on a midweek meeting, the biggest one for two years and what a fantastic payout with £30,141.30 to a £1 stake.
"It reiterates with the Tote that you can bet small and win big. We'll continue to make the most of these opportunities when there are big rollovers for customers to bet into."
