On Sunday, trainer Peter Bowen bids to land a winner down in West Sussex, sending just the one runner on a 474 mile round trip down to Fontwell from his stables in Pembrokeshire.
Whenever we see any yard travel a fair way with one of their runners we like to highlight it, as we believe they would not be travelling all that distance if they did not believe they have a real chance of collecting some prize money along the way.
The yard have enjoyed plenty of previous success when travelling at least this far with one of their runners having notched as many as 228 winners in 1280 previous attempts (18% strike rate), and given the handler is no stranger to success around here it would come as a surprise were this improving chaser not to show up well later this afternoon.
Since making the switch to Peter Bowen from the Christian Williams stable this gelding has been ultra consistent, finishing inside the frame across all eight runs and scoring on three of those occasions.
He was denied the hat trick when finishing behind a subsequent winner at Cartmel back in June but the drop back in trip may have found him that day, so this extra yardage looks sure to play to his advantage, and although he has moved a long way up the handicap following his recent exploits there might still be further improvement left in the locker.
Fancied to be thereabouts with conditions to suit.
