The William Haggas trained Addeybb is now the hot favourite for the British Champion Stakes at Ascot on Saturday after there has been a huge gamble took place on the five year old.
The feature Group One contest of the British Champions Day meeting has seen many special winners of the contest and this year looks to be no exception with a host of superbly talented animals all looking to get there hoofs on the title.
Compared to the last few years there has been a stand alone favourite in Cracksman who has won the last two renewals of this race going off at very short prices.
However, this season it is set to be one of the most competitive runnings of the race and there has been some huge movements in the ante-post betting markets that has sparked somewhat of a gamble.
The weather forecast over the last few days has seen masses of rain fall on the Berkshire track seeing the outer track waterlogged and likely to be abandoned ahead of the card on Saturday.
With more rain set to fall it plays into the hands of the horses that enjoy soft or even heavy conditions and Addeybb is one of those horses seeing his odds of 10/1 last week now into as short as 11/4 at most high street bookmakers.
The gelding is well known for how much enjoys the rain and testing conditions and that is exactly what he will get at the weekend and this has been the main thought process behind the gamble on him.
During his career the five year old son of Pivotal has won seven times with his best performances coming in the Listed Wolferton Stakes at Royal Ascot and the Rose Of Lancaster Stakes this season.
Both those runs had plenty in common with the main factor being the ground conditions being very wet and perfect for Addeybb.
The gamble on Haggas' horse has been strong for the last few days with the more rain the more likely the price to get shorter but with him never winning a Group One before in his career it does cast an element of doubt.
