Leading jockey Andrea Atzeni will appeal a six day ban that he picked up on the final day of the Craven meeting at Newmarket last week.
The Italian rider with this ban is set to miss the Guineas meeting on May 4th and 5th where he was set to ride Emaraaty Ana in the 2,000 Guineas on the Saturday.
The 28 year old was given the ban because the stewards at Newmarket explained that Atzeni was guilty of using the whip in the wrong place on winning horse in the mile handicap, Beringer.
Atzeni landed four winners across the three day meeting with his retained trainer Roger Varian also being in sparkling form.
(Credit Racing Post) The rider will appeal the ban and said: "I intend to appeal the ban. I've nothing to lose."
Atzeni's current ban will run from will run from May 2nd to the 7th but overturned will obviously see the rider continue riding.
He holds some other nice rides at Newmarket that weekend with exciting youngster UAE Jewel who bolted up in the Wood Ditton and also Mot Juste who finished second to stablemate Qabala in the Nell Gwyn.
Qabala from the Roger Varian yard is now at 4/1 to take the 1,000 Guineas off the back of that run.
