⚫ Brighton (14:40) - Far From Dandy
⚫ Brighton (15:15) - Optiva Star
⚫ Brighton (15:50) - Cresta Cat
Far From Dandy enters the 14:40 at Brighton as a strong contender, priced at 13/8, with promising recent form that highlights his potential. Trained by the highly-regarded George Boughey and ridden by talented Billy Loughnane, this two-year-old Colt is coming off an impressive victory at Yarmouth just 28 days ago, where he powered home over 1m on good to firm ground. The step up from 7 to 1m seemed to suit him well after an earlier sixth-place finish at Newcastle. With a growing profile and confidence from that latest win, Far From Dandy looks primed to make a bold bid for back-to-back victories in what appears to be a winnable contest at Brighton today.
Optiva Star lines up for the 15:15 at Brighton at 9/1, offering value for those looking beyond the favourites. Trained by Richard Hannon, this four-year-old has shown glimpses of ability, notably with a solid third-place finish at Chepstow over 1m in June. Although recent form has been mixed, with back-to-back sixth-place finishes at Epsom and Brighton, his run over 7 furlongs on soft ground at Epsom last month wasn't without promise. Optiva Star carries 9-11 and is well-handicapped on his best form. If he can bounce back to the kind of performance he delivered earlier in the season, he's capable of making his presence felt today.
Cresta Cat enters the 15:50 at Brighton as a longshot at 28/1, but there are reasons to suggest he could surprise in this contest. Trained by Gary & Josh Moore and ridden by experienced jockey Tom Queally, this four-year-old gelding has struggled for form lately, with a string of unplaced efforts across both turf and all-weather surfaces. However, it’s worth noting that Cresta Cat showed promise earlier in the year with a close second at Kempton over 12 furlongs, and he now steps back down in trip to 10 furlongs, which may suit him better. Carrying 9-12 off an OR of 60, he faces a more manageable field today. While recent form is a concern, if Cresta Cat can rediscover his earlier form, he could outrun his odds and provide value for those willing to take a chance.
