Beltane could be the most likely answer to the puzzling seven furlong handicap at Catterick on Tuesday.

The five-year-old represents the Mark Walford stable, with Dougie Costello taking the ride. He failed to take to a visor on his previous start when finishing fifth over course and distance on soft ground.

Down to a career-low mark, but confidence can be taken from some creditable efforts this summer, including a second over course and distance behind Swinging Eddie in handicap company.

Karl Burke and Sam Jones will be hoping that first-time headgear works well for Princess Alex at Catterick on Tuesday. The three-year-old is one of the likely pace angles in the 15:22, and has produced some fine efforts already this season.

That includes a close third behind Rock Melody over seven furlongs last time out. She drops back to six furlongs for the first time since finishing sixth on soft ground at Carlisle, but has some decent form in the book from earlier in the season, including when beating Puella Law over an extended seven furlongs at Beverley.

Drops back in trip, and assured stamina could be a massive benefit on what could be testing ground.

Porfin represents the Phil McEntee stable at Catterick on Tuesday. The team are in excellent form at present, operating at a 50% strike rate over the last 14 days.

Grace McEntee takes the ride on the six-year-old in the closing race of the day. The six-year-old has underwhelmed in some weaker handicaps of late, including when fourth of seven at Brighton on soft ground two weeks ago.

However, for a stable going well, any return to near his best would put him among the leading contenders in this wide-open handicap.
