Group One winner Emily Upjohn is returning for another season on the flat with some of the big middle distance events on her radar and her first big test of the season could come at Epsom in the Group One Coronation Cup.
An exciting four year old daughter of Sea The Stars, Emily Upjohn put in some superb performances last year that made her a force to be reckoned with.
She looked high class when completing a hat-trick in the Musidora and was very unfortunate not to make it 4-4 when denied on the nod in the Epsom Oaks after tumbling slightly when jumping out the stalls.
She was forced wide on that occasion so on another day she would have won that with plenty left in hand. She then failed to give her running in the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes but she did bounce back to form when last seen at Ascot.
Sent into the Group One British Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes she went on to win well, beating the Ger Lyons trained Thunder Kiss by three lengths.
This term the Coronation Cup could be her first port of call and having ran well at Epsom last season, although taking on the boys, she could be still improving.
“She ran a huge race in the Oaks when just beaten there and had a nice swansong (at Ascot) at the end of last year,” said joing trainer Thady Gosden
.“She was heading towards Dubai but with the cold weather in the spring, it didn’t quite work out. Obviously she would have been taking on Equinox which would have been an interesting one.
“The Coronation Cup would be a nice early one to start with if she’s ready in time, but we’ll see how she is and she’ll tell us.”
