One of the leading trainer and jockey partnerships in the sport brought up another milestone together as John Gosden and Frankie Dettori landed 500 winners together in Britain on Thursday.
The superb pairing landed the incredible feat when Terebellum, a daughter of Sea The Stars, crossed the line first in the Maiden Fillies Stakes at Goodwood.
Dettori and Gosden have been a dangerous pairing for decades, gaining their first winner together back in 1989 at Redcar when Heisman won a maiden but now 30 years later have a magical 500 between them and there is no indication whatsoever from the jockey and the trainer that there operation is slowing down.
Last week and not for the first time they landed the Yorkshire Cup with staying superstar Stradivarius and that was their 499th winner together.
The Princess Haya owned Terebellum took the 1 mile 2f contest on the first day of Goodwood's May meeting in good style and looks like a very smart filly going forward into the season for the Gosden yard.
Dettori and Gosden have always had a special relationship on and off the racecourse with the respect they hold for each other playing a major part into their success and in times gone by the jockey has referred to the trainer as a father figure, which says a lot.
(Credit - Racing Post) "I didn't know that," said Gosden. "It's been good. He's a pleasure to work with when he behaves! I'd forgotten about Heisman; it was my first year back here from America."
Dettori first properly stuck with Gosden in the 1990's when he was supposed to pick up a contract over in Hong Kong but it never came to happen and in a happy turn of events the Gosden - Dettori partnership was born.
The energetic yet switched on Dettori has won most of the big sporting accolades that are possible in flat racing with his first major break coming when he was retained rider for Godolphin and week in week out he was riding classy horses and that but him into the big time.
Some of the major wins the duo have had together have been an Oaks, Irish Oaks, three Arcs, a King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes (Golden Horn Arc the rest Enable) and Gold Cup (Stradivarius) have followed along with plenty of other notable successes for the superstar pairing.
