Gordon Elliott always sends a strong team to this meeting at Down Royal, and that is no different this year. Speculatrix will be among his leading chances on Friday, as the five-year-old looks to get off the mark at the second attempt over hurdles.

The five-year-old mare travelled excellently on her debut over hurdles at the start of last month, before ultimately falling at the last with the race at her mercy. She was a winner under rules on debut in February 2023, winning her bumper by a neck from The Correction.

However, two underwhelming efforts followed on the flat. She is very much one to keep a close eye on this season now going over hurdles and she can quickly make amends for her disappointment at Killarney with Sam Ewing aboard.

Gordon Elliott also has a leading chance in the Grade 3 Battlegreen Hurdle at Down Royal on Friday. Brighterdaysahead was one of the standout performers from the Festivals at the end of last season, including when well-backed for the Mares Novices' Hurdle at Cheltenham before finishing a close second behind Golden Ace.

She quickly bounced back to winning ways, showing her full potential at Aintree. The Elliott runner eased to the front in that G1 Mersey Novices' Hurdle, eventually finishing over seventh lengths clear of stablemate Staffordshire Knot.

She is an exciting addition to the Novices' Hurdle races this season, and showed that she can beat the boys when winning over a mile and four at Aintree. Back in trip on her seasonal return, and she is taken to resume winning ways after winning over course and distance in November 2023.
