Epsom's clerk of the course Andrew Cooper has changed the going description on Tuesday morning after large amounts of rain falling on the track on Monday Evening now sees the ground soft, good to soft in places ahead of the Cazoo Derby festival.
On Monday morning Cooper had stated the the going was good, good to soft in places but after a large amount of rainfall on Monday evening in and around the Surrey track, the clerk had to quickly revise the going to now read much softer.
(Credit Racing Post) He said: "In terms of rain we've had 9mm.
"8mm of that was between six and seven o'clock yesterday evening, it was a very heavy hour of rain and one small shower earlier in the day.
"Walking it this morning, the Oaks rail line, I've called it soft, good to soft in places but I have no doubt that if you were racing here today, you would race on the top half of the home straight which is certainly only slightly slower than good to soft.
"They would come stands' side and to be honest would be racing, if they did so, on ground you would probably call good to soft, soft in places."
The weather forecast is set to be fairly dry from now until the start of the festival on Friday but Cooper has explained there could be a little more rain on Tuesday.
Cooper added: "It has eased things.
"I've left the five furlong course as good to soft for the 'Dash' and the Derby course where there is a lot of fresh ground on the inside of Friday's line, I've actually given as good to soft, soft in places.
"There is a shower risk today and tomorrow, and then Thursday, Friday and Saturday look dry with temperatures around 20'C."
