The John & Thady Gosden trained Laurel will stay in training next year as the three year old showed just how much potential she has when a narrow second last time out in the Group One Sun Chariot Stakes.

Set to be a star in the making for a yard that have had some superb types for owners Juddmonte, the daughter of Kingman has been seen three times to date and has shown plenty of talent on all three runs.

Making her debut in July at flat racing HQ on the July Course, she took on some more proven types in a Novice Stakes over a mile and went on to win by three lengths going away.

Having had a little break she returned at Kempton on the all weather over a mile once more and she was just as a convincing winner as she was on debut.

That run set her perfectly for the Sun Chariot Stakes at Newmarket and when looking like the most likely winner a furlong out she was just beaten close home by the Kevin Ryan trained Fonteyn.

Having only had three runs in her short career, owners Juddmonte have decided to keep her in training for another year, with some of the big Group One mile events set to be in the offing.

“We’ll put her away now most likely, and we’ll train her to bring her back as a four-year-old.

“She ran an unbelievable race to finish second in a Group One on her third ever start and she’s an exciting filly for next year for sure.”
