The weekend is almost upon us and the big races of the weekend are not far away and in preparation for the Dewhurst on Saturday we have looked back at one of the best renewals in recent years.
The 2017 resumption of the race went the way of Aidan O'Brien with the master trainer having a whole host of runners but it was the talented U S Navy Flag that got the job done in a finish that saw a 1-2-3-4 for the trainer.
Having been a smart performer over six furlongs landing races in Ireland and England, including the Group One Middle park Stakes, O'Brien decided to step him up in trip for the Dewhurst.
It was a stroke of brilliance from the handler, with the horse showing his pace that we had seen over 6f but also a bit of staying ability to get the extra furlong.
Newmarket was his stomping ground during his career racing there four times, winning three of them and placing in another with all three victories coming in Group One company.
