Group One Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes Ascot Guide 2024

Five-year-old Time Lock arrives here for this Group One contest after finishing first of five in the Group Three Dubai Stakes last month. The mare has won four times in her career so far and was also third in a G2 at Newmarket in July as well.

This is tougher and she finished seventh in this last year, so she'll need to improve to figure.

Jessica Harrington saddles one here in the form of Village Voice, who arrives at Ascot on a high following a four-length success in a Listed outing at Saint-Cloud last month when priced at 3/1.

She had been on a more inconsistent run of form beforehand having recorded form figures of 13461 over her last five outings. She's one who could progress following her latest victory and certainly isn't dismissed.

112-rated runner Quantanamera makes her first start on British soil here following four runs in France, where she has recorded form figures of 8821, progressing nicely to perform well on back-to-back occasions.

Her success in the Group Two Deauville Stakes was particularly impressive given her SP of 14/1 and the fact she hadn't won a race before. This race will be harder but she is on the up and there's a chance she can progress further.

Dermot Weld's filly Sumiha makes her first start at Ascot following a fourth-place finish in the Group Three We're Here To Play Stakes at Leopardstown last month when priced at 7/2.

That had followed a nice start to her career in Ireland, recording form figures of 1221 including Group Three success at Cork in June over 1m 4f. Tougher test here but not discounted on first taste of Group One action.

Thunder Roll currently sits at 33/1 in the betting market for this contest on the back of finishing fourth in a G1 race at ParisLongchamp earlier this month. She's won twice in her career at Galway and Cork in Listed outings and trainer Joseph O'Brien will be hoping she can go close for a first grouped success here.

She does face a stiff task here in G1 company and the betting seems to agree at the time of writing.

109-rated runner Tiffany has won seven of her last nine races, including a success last time out in Germany nearly two months ago. She's also been in good form on English soil, winning at Newcastle twice as well as success at Wolverhampton and Windsor.

She has to be considered here given the form she's in prior to this race. Cheekpieces are applied.

Aiden O'Brien's number one hope for success in this Group One event is Content. The three-year-old finished tenth of 11 in a G1 at ParisLongchamp lto but is expected to bounce back here.

Before that run in France, she'd been on a good run when finishing in the top three on all of the three occasions beforehand at Curragh (twice) and York. She comes into consideration here for a good stable.

The market outsider for this race at Ascot this weekend is Sea Theme, trained by William Haggas. The four-year-old finished sixth in a G1 race at ParisLongchamp earlier this month before heading here to Ascot.

Before that, her form figures over her career read 31194615, including successes at York, Doncaster and Clairefontaine. She looks up against it here in this company. Tom Marquand is booked to ride.

Another horse in the race for Aiden O'Brien is Wingspan. The three-year-old has been in good form so far in her career, winning at Leopardstown and Gowran Park as well as placing twice at Curragh in Grouped contests.

The filly has only won at Listed level which is a slight negative but she is another promising horse for the O'Brien yard. She could go well again here but this is a step up in class.

Three-year-old War Chimes arrives at Ascot this weekend on the back of finishing a respectable eighth of 14 in the Group One Irish Oaks at Curragh in July last time out. That had followed a stellar run in the Epsom Oaks in May, where she finished third when priced at 50/1 before the race.

She would be a decent shot on the back of that outing but it looks tougher following her latest run.

The third runner for Aiden O'Brien in this Group One race at Ascot over 1m 3f on Saturday is Grateful. The three-year-old finished first of 15 in a G1 race at ParisLongchamo earlier this month, when going off at 25/1.

That was somewhat surprising after she finished sixth at Goodwood and third at Doncaster and she faces another stiff test here. She looks to be second string for the O'Brien yard.

John and Thady Gosden saddle one here at Ascot in this G1 race in the form of Queen Of The Pride. The four-year-old has largely impressed in her career so far, finishing in the top three of races on four occasions, sandwiching two eighth-place finishes on debut and last time out.

She can compete here if showing the same form she did at Haydock when winning the Lancashire Oaks.

Four-year-old Doha travels to Ascot for Ralph Beckett after winning the Listed Dahlia Stakes at Saint-Cloud earlier this month. That was her first win since tasting success in the Kensington Palace Handicap here in June.

Since then, she managed to record form figures of 2521, also placing in the G3 Atalanta Stakes at Sandown in August. She's in good form but this might be a step too far.

The final runner in this Group One race is Kalpana, trained by Andrew Balding. The three-year-old comes into this one in good form, finishing in the top three on all seven occasions so far in her early career.

She has won four times, including back-to-back successes at Hamilton and Kempton, with the latter being the Group Three September Stakes. She can be capable of better and is rightly short in the betting.
