Edward Bethell trains one in the Group One Middle Park Stakes at Newmarket this weekend in the form of his two-year-old Intrusively. The colt arrives here on the back of finishing fifth in a class two race at Doncaster earlier this month.

His only other start at this sort of level before today came in the Group Two Richmond Stakes at Goodwood in August, where he finished a respectable third when priced at 40/1.

This is an even bigger step up and while he's not discounted, he'd be an unlikely winner.

The first of Aiden O'Brien's runners in the Middle Park Stakes this weekend and the current 8/11 market favourite at the time of writing is Whistlejacket. The two-year-old is searching for his fourth win already after victories at Deauville, Newmarket and Curragh so far.

The last of those was the most impressive so far, claiming his first Group One success at Daeuville after wins at Listed and Group Two level as well as placing in the G1 Phoenix Stakes at Curragh.

Ryan Moore rides here instead of Ides Of March, and he should be the one to beat here.

Andrew Balding saddles one runner in the Group One Middle Park Stakes this Saturday at Newmarket in the form of his colt Jouncy. The two-year-old finished second of ten in the Group Three Sirenia Stakes at Kempton lto.

Before that run, he didn't perform to his potential on first grouped outing at York last month, finishing seventh in the Group Three Acomb Stakes at York after winning a class two race at Goodwood.

He arrives here with some doubt over whether he can compete at this level.

The second of Aiden O'Brien's runners in the Group One Middle Park Stakes at Newmarket this weekend is Ides Of March. The two-year-old is currently the second favourite in the market following a three-length win in the Group Three Round Tower Stakes last time out at Curragh.

That was his second straight win at the same course after winning a maiden race there prior to that after finishing fourth and third on his first two outings.

He looks to be second string to Whistlejacket here but expect him to go well still.

Michael O'Callaghan saddles one in the Middle Park Stakes over six furlongs at Newmarket this weekend in the form of his colt Black Forza. The 105-rated runner finished fourth of nine in a Juvenile Sprint at Kentucky Downs earlier this month when priced at 9/4.

That had followed a half-length success in the Group Two Richmond Stakes at Goodwood last month, as well as a win at Fairyhouse and fifth at Curragh on debut.

He's not discounted here if back to his best after that Kentucky run.

Charlie Appleby's sole runner in the Middle Park Stakes at Newmarket this Saturday is Shadow Of Light, who will be ridden by stable jockey William Buick. The two-year-old has raced three times in his career, winning two of those.

He begun his racing days with a win at Yarmouth in a class four race in July, before following up with a win here at the same level a month later. He now arrives here on the back of a good second-place finish in the Group Two Gimcrack at York lto.

He's definitely one to consider for this good trainer/jockey duo.

The penultimate runner in the Group One Middle Park Stakes at Newmarket this weekend is Dash Dizzy, trained by Charlie Johnston. The two-year-old is one of the least experienced colts in the race, having raced just twice so far.

He begun his career with a decent third-place finish in a field of seven at Pontefract in a class three race before following up with his first victory at Kempton, back down at class four level.

This is a huge step up and would be a big surprise if he managed to compete for victory.
