Group Three Classic Trial Guide

Born With Pride For William Haggas is our horse to follow at Kempton on Wednesday and she races in the first Group race of the season, the Classic Trial.

The 1 mile 2 furlong contest sees the three year old filly take on the boys and after her impressive debut back in November when landing a Listed contest on debut, there is plenty to like about her.

Top jockey Tom Marquand has been given the leg up which is a huge bonus but overall, this filly has already seen market support for the Epsom Oaks and if running to form in this one will be very tough to beat and will be a very small price for the fillies classic.

The second favourite on the day is Max Vega for trainer Ralph Beckett who has some serious chances in the big races this season and this colt looks very exciting.

Having raced three times so far during his career he has shown plenty of ability on all his starts when second on debut at Salisbury and then winning both his last two outings.

His last run saw him stepped up in trip to 1 mile 2 furlongs for the first time and he landed the Group Three Zetland Stakes which sets a good standard in this contest.

Another exciting prospect in this contest is Hypothetical for John Gosden and Frankie Dettori takes the mount which would suggest they think highly of this three year old.

The colt has only raced once and scored nicely at Chelmsford in a Class 3 event. That win came over a mile and he steps up in trip to this distance for the first time which should bring more out of him.

The son of Lope De Vega was bought for 550,000 Guineas as a yearling and is expected to be a very exciting youngster.

Bright Melody is the only Godolphin runner in the field, that like many in the field has a big chance off the back of his debut run as a two year old.

Back in January the son of Dubawi won at Chelmsford in a Class 5 event and although showing inexperience he got the job done nicely.

He might just find this slightly hot for his first run of the season but should be respected nonetheless.

Highland Chief goes for the new father and son training duo of Paul and Oliver Cole and this colt looks very useful but may find some to good for him.

He is one of the more experienced horses in the field racing three times last year and showed his ability on debut at Newbury when landing a Class 4.

That came over five furlongs and every time he has been stepped up in trip since then he has not quite been the same and it looks a strange one seeing go up in trip again.

Andrew Baldings runner would be a shock winner of this, even though he does have some nice form from last season and on his sole run this year.

He was only average on debut at Salisbury but since then got off the mark at Ffos Las and gave some strong frame runs in Listed company.

In March he finished second of five in a Class 2 at Kempton over a mile and the step up in trip will need to get more improvement out of him.

Coming towards the outsiders in the contest and the Simon & Ed Crisford trained Night Colours won a decent Group Two in Italy last October but now holding a four pound penalty looks Vulnerable.

That win is arguably the best form on offer but on his only start on the all weather he gave his worst performance to date and that looks worrying with him going back to Kempton.

Pyledriver looks a nice colt for the yard but this looks a very tough task off the back of his poor performance at Newmarket in September when finishing last in the Royal Lodge Stakes.

Before that he was much better in soft conditions at Haydock in a Listed race but the talent and pedigree some of these runners hold makes it very hard to see him involved.

Archie Watson is looking for that breakthrough horse for his yard and unfortunately it doesn't look like this three year old will be it.

Although a nice type when winning his debut at Newcastle back in February this race is a completely different ball game and he will have needed to come on a fair bit to get involved.

Ralph Beckett's second in the race and the bigger priced of the two is Chamade who was poor on debut but came on in heaps for that run to win second time out.

He scored nicely at Newmarket on that day over seven furlongs and it did look like he would appreciate a step up in trip but his sole run on the all weather was worrying and gives him big doubts coming back to the surface.

The biggest price of the lot is this colt who looks as though he will improve for the step up in trip today but not enough to get involved in the Group Three contest.

He has a lovely pedigree being a son of Dubawi but his latest showing at Newmarket was very underwhelming and with that his overall form is patchy.
