Exciting talent for Roger Varian Eydon picked up a setback earlier on in the season which ruled him out of races like the Derby and French Derby but now he could remain out for the rest of the season having picked up another problem.

The three year old was first seen in December 2021 when a close third behind a nice type for John Gosden and then over the same C&D in February he was a short head second to Oceania Legend.

Given his first start on turf at the Craven meeting over 1m1f in the Listed Feilden Stakes, he drifted out to 22/1 on the day but went on to bolt up by over three lengths, seeing off smart challenger Masekela.

Last seen running a cracker in the Group One 2000 Guineas when finishing fourth behind the likes of Coroebus, Native Trail and Luxembourg.

Set for some big races this season he will no longer be seen but he should be back next year and being lightly raced could play to his strengths.

“Whether we make the end of the season or not, we could just. But I think it is more likely he’ll come back next year.”
