Lingfield Listed Oaks Trial Guide 2021

The Lingfield Oaks trial market is headed by the Martyn Meade trained Technique who was assertive when making a winning debut at Wolverhampton on the all weather (9.5f).

She followed up by taking on the boys in the Blue Riband trial at Epsom, running a big race and just missing out by an eventual head in the listed 10f contest. 

That display is the best form on offer in this field and a repeat of that run at Lingfield, a track similar to that of Epsom, would see her go very close. 

She doesn’t have the most star-studded pedigree on offer here with her dams only win coming on the Fibresand (1m 4f) although she is a daughter of champion 2-year-old and Irish 1000 Guineas (8f) winner Mastercraftsman. 

Nash Nasha was off the mark at the second time of asking, winning a class 5 contest here at Lingfield (8f) as a 4/9 favourite. 

The Godolphin filly followed up on that win on her comeback run 15 days ago at Sandown with a half length victory in a class 4, keeping on well and seeing off all pressures (10f). 

She has an eye-catching pedigree costing one million euros as a foal, out of Dubawi and Irish 1000 Guineas (8f) winner Just The Judge.

She will strip fitter from her comeback run and steps up in distance again today which signified by the way she stayed on last time out, looks sure to suit. 

Connections will be eager to cash in on that huge price tag. 

Ocean Road represents trainer Hugo Palmer who is searching for his first win in the Oaks. 

The fillie is stepping up to 12f for the first time here and is making her first appearance of the season on the back of a 5 month break. 

She was second behind subsequent, follow-up winner Noon Star on debut, before asserting her dominance in a fillies novice stakes here at Lingfield (8f) in an impressive display by which she made her win look very easy. 

She has a lot of scope for improvement now stepping up to middle distances being out of Australia but has fitness to prove on the back of her break. 

John Gosden has won 3 of the last 4 renewals of this race and himself and wife Thady are represented in the market by two runners, the first being Loving Dream.

She won at the second time of asking, winning a maiden fillies race on the all weather (8.5f), keeping on to lead towards the finish by an eventual 1 length margin. 

She returned from a 4 month break last time out, upped to 10f in a fillies novice stakes by which she finished a 2 1/2 length runner up behind the smart Noon Star out of Galileo, again keeping on well to the line to signify 12f should be no issue. 

She’s out of high class miler Gleneagles, related to St Leger winner Brian Boru and Arc Winner, Workforce, thereby showing her high class potential. 

Frankie Dettori has been employed for the ride who has been in great form recently much like the Gosden yard who have been generating a healthy flow of winners since the flat season restart. 

Divinely represents Aidan O’Brien in the race, 8 time winning Oaks trainer and twice winner of this specific Oaks trial. 

She’s the most experienced runner in the race with 5 outings under her belt as a 2yo and boasts group winning form having won the Flame of Tara Stakes (Group 3, 8f) in heavy conditions last August. 

That race was a real test of stamina in the mud although this will be her first outing at the 12f trip having done her running over 7/8f distances.

She is a representative of Galileo, the leading sire in the UK for the past 11 years and record holder for being the most successful source of Group 1 winners in thoroughbred history, giving her big expectations here. 

She is equipped with the talented Ryan Moore on board, although does have to prove herself at the distance and on the back of a 237 day break. 

Trainer Roger Varian has his yard in great order currently and will want to continue his great run of form here with his Kingman filly Save A Forest. 

She was off the mark at the third time of asking in a maiden fillies stakes race at Wolverhampton (9.5f), running on well to win by an eventual 3 1/2 lengths.

She followed up on that win last time out at Windsor in a class 4 handicap (10f), again running on well to lead in the final 100 yards. 

She’s brother to the useful Father Of Jazz who finished 3rd in the Winter Derby (10f) however she has it all to prove upped to 12f.

The second John and Thady Gosden entrant in the race is Regent out of Frankel.

She shaped well for the step up in distance on debut over 7f and was subsequently won over 8f next time out in a novice stakes race at Chelmsford.

She improved further for her step up to 10f when ridden to lead within the final furlong to win by an eventual 1/2 length margin here at Lingfield.

She is the daughter of legendary Frankel and is closely related to a family of star studded middle distance runners including St Leger runner up, Midas Touch and dual French Group 1 winner Coronet.

She should improve once more for the step up to 1m 4f and rounds off a very impressive pair of Gosden entrants, although it must be noted that Regent holds an entry into the Ribblesdale in favour of the Oaks. 

Sherbet Lemon was an impressive 3 length debut winner on the all weather (8f) before finishing 4th over 10f at Wetherby.

She’s a useful type out of US Belmont stakes (12f) winner Lemon Drop Kid and half sister to 2019 Melbourne Cup (16f) third placed runner Il Paradiso. 

Having said this, her most recent outing was a 6 length beating by Loving Dream which puts into perspective the amount she needs to find on her re-opposing rival here on her first test over the 12f trip.
