Charlie Longsdon and his stable was given sickening news yesterday with the jumps season getting ever closer, Bentelimar one of there star performers suffered a fatal injury in a accident in training.
The nine year old chaser had been at Longsdon's yard for just coming up to a year after joining from his previous trainer Shay Barry.
Bentelimar made history for Longsdon during the short time they worked together as he gave the trainer his first win at the Grand National meeting when winning the Red Rum Handicap Chase at Aintree in April. From this victory the horse sky rocketed to personal best rating of 150.
Tributes have been sent on social media by all of his connections with one coming from Johnny Burke, the jockey that rode him all but one of his six starts for Charlie Longsdon.
The horse that was close to everyone's hearts in the yard was Charlie Longsdon's highest earner last season winning close to £60,000 in winnings.
Bentelimar, who was owned by the Swanee River Partnership, won seven of his 38 starts overall and had a sterling career under different trainers. He earned a total of of £152,595.
