A son of the late Galileo, Mogul travels over from Ireland for Aidan O’Brien and Ryan Moore.

This 4 year old captured the Gordon Stakes at this meeting last year for connections when just holding off Highland Chief after a disappointing run in the Derby.

He left his classic flop behind to win here at Goodwood and then to easily win the Grand Prix de Paris.

He took another major step forward in group company to win the Hong Kong Vase under Ryan Moore at Sha Tin in December.

He’s not managed to regain the winning thread as a 4 year old however and has been well beaten in his three starts this campaign.

Most recently coming last in the Coronation Cup behind Pyledriver, he weakened alarmingly out of contention to finish 40 lengths behind the winner.

If a drop in grade brings him back to his best he should be difficult to beat here.

Jim Goldie
Age: 8
Weight: 9-4

Days: 28

Jim Goldie’s stable star has been in fine form this season having captured Group 3 and listed prizes this season.
The 8 year old has been versatile having won over 10 to 14 furlongs in his career but has always looked his best on rain softened ground.

Notching 12 wins from his 39 career runs, he looks as good as ever this season and won the Brigadier Gerard Stakes at Sandown with ease back in late May.

Fast ground at Royal Ascot wasn’t his ideal but he still ran creditably in the Wolferton Stakes to be 5th. A return to Sandown recently saw him give weight and a resound beating to a smart field.

Moving up to 12 furlongs will be no problem and the ground at Goodwood being soft will see him at his best. He’ll likely be right up there.

Oisin Murphy will be wearing the all blue of Godolphin for Saeed bin Suroor on Passion And Glory here.

Things have really clicked into place for this 5 year old this season as he’s easily won back to back handicaps.

Despite having his fitness issues, he missed the whole of 2020, he returned in fine fettle for connections to win a handicap at Linfield off a mark of 90.

Easily brushing aside a field of 7, he went up 10lbs for his troubles but defied the handicapper again to an even more impressive win at Ascot earlier this month.

He’s been a revelation over 10 furlongs this season so it’s interesting that connections are moving him down in trip. He won on deep ground as a 3 year old so if he has the pace for dropping in trip he could get competitive.

Archie Watson
Age: 6
Weight: 9-1
OR: 110
Days: 20

A 6 year old gelding for Archie Watson, Outbox has been busy this year since joining his new yard. Already running 9 times since the start of the year, Outbox has won 3 of those outings.

Tried as a stayer when first joining Watson’s contingent, he simply wasn’t staying over marathon trips so was dropped back to 12 furlongs with great success.

Moving up in grade on soft ground saw him getting beaten quite comprehensively until encountering fast ground in a listed race at Newmarket. A return to fast ground seemingly brought out the best in him and he managed to scalp St Leger winner Logician.

Last seen in the Silver Cup stakes at York, 14 furlongs looked to be too far for him in higher graded company but he ran very well to be 2nd to Hukum.

Dropping to 12 furlongs will be better for him here but soft ground might be his undoing again.

Andrew Balding
Age: 6
Weight: 9-1
OR: 108
Days: 27

A runner for King Power racing and Andrew Balding, Alounak spent his early career being trained in Germany where he took listed and group 3 races.

He was brought over to England but struggled to adapt to his new surroundings, he was well beaten all throughout his first season and struggled to land a blow.

Gelded at the end of the season, he still looked to be struggling with life in the UK so was slipping down the ratings.

He made good of his dropping handicap mark when winning off a mark of 102 on his latest outing at Haydock.

A mile and a half on soft ground finally saw him come good and he easily beat a smart field. Things have clicked into place but he looks to have a lot on his hands moving back up into group company here.

William Haggas
Age: 5
Weight: 9-1

Days: 27

Last year’s winner of this race lines up again for William Buick and William Haggas.

He comfortably touched off Desert Encounter here last year, travelling kindly throughout the race to pick off his rivals in the final furlong.

He has struggled to return to form since and has been well held in his last 4 outings. A mark of 108 was too stiff for him to get competitive in last year’s Ebor and he was last in the Jockey Club stakes at Newmarket on return.

He has since been beaten by both Outbox and Alounak.

With both of those looking to have something to find to get competitive, Pablo Escobarr looks to have a big task on his hands to retain his crown here.

David O'Meara
Age: 5
Weight: 9-1
OR: 111
Days: 322

Not seen for 322 days, David O’Meara’s Eagles By Day has only notched up two career victories so far.

An easy maiden winner, he struggled when moving up in grade as a 3 year old, with his best run being a 3rd placed effort in the King Edward VII Stakes behind Japan when trained by Michael Bell.

Changing stables last year, he won at the first time of asking for his new connections when winning a group 3 at York over 14 furlongs.

Since tried over staying trips, he didn't quite have the stamina to get competitive so a drop in trip will suit him here.

He hasn’t been effective on soft ground previously so might struggle again on a slower surface.

Simon & Ed Crisford
Age: 4
Weight: 9-1
OR: 107
Days: 83

Training duo Simon and Ed Crisford bring their 4 year old Without A Fight here having been rested for the last 83 days.

Last season he racked up an impressive sequence of victories over 10 to 12 furlongs. His last start coming over a mile and 6 furlongs he came 3rd in listed company behind Berkshire Rocco and Albaflora.

He hasn’t quite come back in the same form this year but performed well on his first outing of the campaign to be 2nd to Al Aasy in a group 3 at Newbury.

His last run coming in early May, he was well beaten behind Albaflora again as the filly beat listed competition easily.
He looked highly promising as a youngster so hopefully can recapture some of the spark he had last season.

Fox Tal

Andrew Balding
Age: 5
Weight: 9-1

Another runner for Andrew Balding is Fox Tal in the King Power Racing colours.

This horse went down in notebooks when running a screamer to be 4th behind Magical in the Champion Stakes at Ascot at the end of the 2019 season.

However, the 5 year old hasn’t managed to run to anywhere near that level since.

A gelding operation at the end of last season looked to have brought about some improvement and he was only narrowly touched off on comeback at Chester in handicap company.

Dispatched easily by Euchen Glen twice already this season, he doesn’t look capable of reversing that form.

Likely to be more effective as his mark drops back down to a realistic handicap level.
