Mini Stable Guide - Ruth Jefferson

Mini Stable Guide

In the second edition of our new segment here on TWE we are looking through and speaking to trainers ahead of the upcoming jumps season and getting some words from them about their horses and what is to come this season.

This weeks stable tour comes from national hunt trainer Ruth Jefferson who is stationed out of Norton, North Yorkshire.

We have asked her about what chase horses, hurdle horses and also any other things we should know from her team ahead of the 2019/20 jumps season.

Chase Horses

We asked Ruth Jefferson for some of her horses that are going over fences this season that will be worth following from her yard and she responded with:

WAITING PATIENTLY - "He had a good summer at grass and returned looking great. Everything has ticked along nicely to date and he is working well.

"He will be ready to school shortly. We have no plan which sounds terrible but will see where the ground takes with him being a bit versatile regarding trip.

"Following last season we would be looking to run on ground no better then soft."

BUSTER VALENTINE - "Bar Waiting Patiently, most of my chasers are novices and I like Buster Valentine, he won two last year and has strengthened up for a summer at grass.

"He schools great and likes soft ground."

RETURN TICKET - "He has always been a chaser in the making liking the top of the ground and will be going between 2-2 1/2 miles."

DOUBLE W'S - "He returned from injury in a different place mentally, he is a much happier horse and should have a good chase up his sleeve in Spring when the ground comes good."

Hurdle Horses

We asked Ruth Jefferson for some of her horses that are going over Hurdles this season that will be worth following from her yard and she responded with:

BLACK EBONY - "I think Black Ebony will improve for jumps (he ran well in bumpers) but will appreciate the step up in trip and is from a nice family including Attaglance."

LEMON T - "Lemon T won his bumper in good style and has schooled well to date. He is another that should benefit from an increase in trip."

DUBAI ANGEL - "Dubai Angel had a poor season last year but seems in a better place this time around and should be well handicapped."

Other Things To Note For The Season

When speaking to Mrs Jefferson we also asked her if there were any other horses or any other things we should know about for the new season.

She said: "I have two nice point to point mares for bumpers, Blossoming Forth and Clondaw Caitlin.

"They both work well and should pick up a bumper before switching to hurdles.

"The other bumper horses won’t be out until after Christmas!"

To finish we also asked the handler what race she would love to win this season and what her overall goal for the season was.

She added: "Any Grade One would be brilliant - they are hard to win but look good on your CV and the Future Champions Novice Chase at Ayr would be great to win this season."
