Newbury (12:45) Tip - Kalif Du Berlais

Paul Nicholls-trained Kalif Du Berlais will be a hot favourite in the 12:45 at Newbury on Friday.

The yard is striking at a 30% rate over the last two weeks, and Harry Cobden is booked to take the ride. The four-year-old will be hoping to make amends after a fall on his chase debut at Carlisle earlier this month.

He was much the best of these over hurdles last season, which included a win over two miles in the G2 Adonis Juvenile Hurdle.

The only major concern will be surrounding any lasting effects from his heavy fall earlier in the month, but if back on song, he looks hard to oppose.

KALIF DU BERLAIS @ 21/25

Newbury (13:20) Tip - Ambiente Amigo

James Owen has a strong hand in an interesting Juvenile Hurdle at 13:20. However, the preference is for Ambiente Amigo.

The three-year-old filly will have Sam Twiston-Davies aboard, with the rider striking at a 24% rate over the last two weeks.

She was a winner over hurdles on her latest start, beating Fine Point in impressive fashion by a six-length margin. Was very useful on the flat, winning once from ten starts.

Has huge potential over hurdles, and she couldn't have been more impressive on her first start over obstacles.

AMBIENTE AMIGO @ 13/8

Newbury (13:55) Tip - Captain Teague

A red-hot renewal of the G2 John Francome Novices' Chase has attracted a strong field. The three market leaders all have obvious claims, but the preference is for the Paul Nicholls-trained Captain Teague.

The six-year-old is yet to jump a fence in public, winning at Exeter at the start of the month in a walkover.

Showed plenty of class in top-level novice hurdle events last season, including when beating Lookaway in the G1 Challow.

Didn't stay three miles in the G1 Albert Bartlett, but remains an interesting contender over larger obstacles over this trip.

CAPTAIN TEAGUE @ 5/2

Newbury (14:30) Tip - Lord Baddesley

An interesting handicap chase is due off at 14:30 at Newbury. Lord Baddesley has leading claims for the Anthony Honeyball yard, with the trainer currently striking at 25% over the last four days.

Sam Twiston-Davies is booked to take the ride. The nine-year-old was second off a 2lb higher mark over two miles and six at Newbury last year.

He has won once from eleven starts over fences, but looks to be back on a workable mark for connections that couldn't be in any better form.

LORD BADDESLEY @ 10/1

Newbury (15:05) Tip - Strong Leader

A far from vintage renewal of the G2 Long Distance Hurdle is due off at 15:05 at Newbury, and it is hard to overlook the claims of Strong Leader for the Olly Murphy team.

The seven-year-old will have Sean Bowen aboard, and he has won four from ten starts over hurdles.

Ended last season on a high point, winning over three miles at Aintree when beating Buddy One in the G1 Liverpool Hurdle. Remains more unexposed than most over this trip, and could be a leading British hope over the staying distance this season.

STRONG LEADER @ 7/4

Newbury (15:40) Tip - Chantry House

Chantry House is the runner for the Nicky Henderson team in the final race on the card at Newbury on Friday.

The yard has been in excellent recent form, striking at a 33% rate over the last two weeks, and Nico de Boinville is booked to take the ride.

The ten-year-old has won twice from nine starts over hurdles, and produced some excellent efforts in high-class company last season. Was last seen finishing fifth in a handicap hurdle at Punchestown in early May.

Has leading claims off a reduced mark over three miles this week.
