Powerofjet could have a leading chance to end his winless sequence under rules today.

The Martin Todhunter runner is yet to fire in five starts over hurdles, but there was plenty to like about his latest effort on Boxing Day at Sedgefield.

Bumped into a smart prospect on that day, finishing third behind Achnamara. A third attempt in a handicap should see him come out in a better light, and the step back in trip should also enhance his chances.

Monkclaw should have each-way claims for the Stuart Coltherd yard at Newcastle today.

The eight-year-old will have Danny McMenamin aboard, and he will be looking for a first win on his fourth attempt over hurdles. Returned from a 601-day break with a disappointing showing last month, taking eleventh of 12 over two miles at Kelso.

However, he should fare better now in handicap company, and the tongue-tie could reap immediate rewards.

DJ Jeffreys sends Iwa to Newcastle on Thursday. The seven-year-old is winless in eight starts in Britain, but is now on an eye-catching weight on the strength of his efforts in France.

Was last seen finishing fourth of nine over an extended mile and seven at Catterick in December, but a step up to two miles and four should suit, and conditions are in his favour today.
