Champion Jockey Oisin Murphy has picked up the stellar ride on board Millisle in the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket next Saturday and will ride her for the first time in his career in the Classic.
The Jessica Harrington trained filly is normally ridden by Shane Foley but with the current situation would be required to quarantine for 14 days back in Ireland should he travel to Newmarket and that would be costly for himself, with meetings set to start in Ireland on June 8th.
Millisle proved her ability last year when landing the Group One Juddmonte Cheveley Park Stakes at Newmarket beating Raffle Prize and leading French 1000 Guineas fancy Tropbeau.
The step up to a mile has been queried by many in the industry but connections, trainer and Murphy believe that she will stay the distance.
(Credit AtTheRaces) He told Sky Sports Racing: “I think she will. She stayed very well in the Cheveley Park, I know it was only six furlongs, but Shane couldn’t pull her up after the line.
“She’s a daughter of Starspangledbanner out of a miling family, so you’d be very hopeful she’d get the trip and if Jessie believes so, I think we should all get some confidence from that.
“I’m thrilled to be asked to ride her, she’s a really nice ride to pick up.”
Millisle is currently a best price of 10/1 to land the second Classic of the season.
