One of the best jockey's this season that has gone on to take 10 Group 1 victories, Oisin Murphy is set to take the ride of Red Verdon in Melbourne Cup with on going speculation of who the Irishman was going to get the mount on.
The Ed Walker trained five year old had been fairly consistent this season with his best performance coming in the Group 2 Hardwicke Stakes at Ascot when he finished a strong second to Crystal Ocean.
Since then he has also finished a good second behind Mirage Dancer in the Group 3 Glorious Stakes at Glorious Goodwood but hasn't been the same horse since then, finishing a laboured fifth in the Lonsdale Cup and his latest outing a poor 11th in the Caulfield Cup down under.
The five year old, owned by The Hon R J Arculli is a best price of 33/1 for the feature race on November 6th at Flemington Racecourse but Murphy is optimistic in his chances on board this horse.
(Credit Racing Post) The Group 1 winning jockey said: "I've ridden Red Verdon a couple of times and was on him when he won well in a conditions race at Lingfield in February, which was a prep for the Marathon on All-Weather Finals Day," said Murphy.
"He's a lovely horse who stays and has pace, so he's the right type for the race. I just need to organise my transport, as I'll be at the Breeders' Cup the weekend before, but others are doing the same trip so it should be okay."
Murphy has had a Phenomenal season so far and with the flat season all but over, he will be looking to add to his Group 1 collection that he has picked up this season, with other chances in America with the Breeders Cup as well.
