A trainer on Saturday is looking to have a winner at Chelmsford on the all-weather, sending just one runner to the southern based track on the day, which sees the handler make a 428 mile round trip.
When we see trainers coming such a long way to just run the one horse we like to highlight it, as we believe they would not be coming all that way if it did not have a real chance.
The trainer in question is Kevin Ryan who is 1 from 3 at Chelmsford this season, his runners finishing 1st, 2nd and 4th.
Cottam Lane is firmly on the up this season, winning a class 5 handicap 3 starts back before improving for a respectable finish in a class 3 and subsequently finishing a 3/4 length 3rd last time out back in a class 4.
Those runs have more than proven his capabilities of being successful at this level and he is now switched to all-weather for the first time today which is entitled to spark further progressions from the runner.
Ryan also equips his runner, who runs off the same mark as last time out today, with useful 5lb claimer Oisin McSweeney in the saddle which can be seen as another sign of intentions given that a 5lb offset at this level last time out, would probably have been enough for Cottam Lane to have gotten his head in front.
