A trainer on Friday is looking to have a winner at Doncaster, sending just one runner to the South Yorkshire venue on the day, which sees the handler make a 494 mile round trip.
When we see trainers coming such a long way to just run the one horse we like to highlight it, as we believe they would not be coming all that way if it did not have a real chance.
The trainer in question is Lucinda Russell, bringing unexposed 3yo gelding Aone Ally to the track who was eye-catching last time out at Ayr over 8f, keeping on strongly from the rear to just miss out by a shoulder margin.
That was the runners first outing in 5 months and he is entitled to improve further with that run now under his belt; after just 5 career starts, he is still a very much progressing type and should now relish the step up to 10f.
Interestingly, this will also be the first time Lucinda Russell and Oisin Murphy team up on a runner making the jockey booking a clear sign of intentions from the trainer.
