Smart filly Haskoy for trainer Ralph Beckett will unfortunately not be seen on a racecourse again having picked up a career ending injury ahead of her run at Royal Ascot next week.
The filly bounced on the scene as a three year old last term when winning over 1m4f at Wolves, bolting up by seven lengths.
Sent into a Listed Fillies' Stakes off the back of that run at York she went on to make it 2/2 in the Sir Henry Cecil Galtres Stakes over the same distance as her debut win, seeing off the talented Time Lock.
Upped in trip for her final run of the season in the Group One St Leger at Doncaster, she ran a screamer to finish two lengths back in fourth behind Eldar Eldarov having finished second but was demoted.
She maybe did not stay the trip as well as others in the race but still ran credibly to set up a lot of optimism ahead of her four year old campaign.
She returned to action this term dropping back to 1m4f in the Group Three Al Rayyan Stakes at Newbury taking on some nice types and receiving a weight allowance she went on to take the race by a short head.
With the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot next on the agenda where she was currently an 8/1 shot for the Group One, it has now been announced by her trainer Ralph Beckett that she has picked up a serious tendon injury that has ruled her out of racing again and she will now recover and be sent to stud.
(Credit Racing Post) "Her near-fore tendon didn't look good on Saturday night," Beckett said on Monday.
"We scanned it this morning and there was a strain that will require her to have 12 months off.
"She's understandably been retired, which is a great shame as I thought it was a big effort in the Aston Park and she'd would have had a good chance wherever she ended up next.
"I always remember being astonished by her debut win at Wolverhampton and without dwelling on the decision to demote her, she produced an enormous effort in the St Leger."
