A few rumours were escalating on Wednesday morning that Samcro will miss the Fighting Fifth at Newcastle this weekend, however they have now been brushed aside by his trainer Gordon Elliott.
Plenty of bookmakers had suspended odds on the Newcastle showpiece, but Elliott confirmed at Punchestown this afternoon, that last year's Ballymore Novices Hurdle winner, is 'ready to go'.
Samcro had been as short as 6-4 last night for the Grade 1 contest feature, but has eased out to 2/1 in the betting. Nicky Henderson's dual Champion Hurdler Buveur D'Air currently heads the market, and is now as short as 8/11, with Supreme Novice winner Summerville Boy no bigger than 3/1.
Six-year-old Samcro will be looking to bounce back from his disappointing comeback run when beaten by Bedrock in the WKD Hurdle at Down Royal, and was due to run in the Morgiana a couple of Sunday's ago.
However, Samcro was pulled from that contest due to the ground being too quick but with plenty of rain forecast in Newcastle, conditions should be in his favour come Saturday.
As a true racing fan, let's hope he is back to his best.
