The Willie Mullins trained Sharjah took the Grade 1 Ryanair Hurdle as the sponsor of the race saw his hurdling superstar of last season Samcro disappoint again in his third start this season.
Sharjah managed to reverse the placings of the last time he faced Samcro and with one flight left to jump he breezed past him and went clear to take the Grade 1 title.
Jessica Harrington's Supasundae went on to gallantly finish second but no one was catching the Rich Ricci owned five year old who was driven out by Patrick Mullins.
Samcro was prominent all the way round but when it came to the run in he did not find anything and it saw him finish second last just beating one other runner in Petit Mouchoir.
Samcro on his debut this season lost to the Iain Jardine trained Bedrock in what was a huge shock and put down to a blip but then in his second race at Newcastle, Nicky Henderson's Buveur D'Air was to much to handle and the Champion Hurdle dream looked over.
Today has surely now for his trainer Gordon Elliott put that final nail in the coffin to see last year's Ballymore Novice winner at the festival now go over fences.
