Three Weekend Eye-catchers - 17/09/2018

Three Weekend Eye-catchers - 17/09/18

The weekend bonanza of racing is over and horses have etched themselves into the history books, most notably Kew Gardens in the St Leger and Roaring Lion in the Irish Champion Stakes.

Here are the three notable eye catchers from this weekend’s action.

SKITTER SCATTER

If the racing world was to be truthful, everyone has dismissed this wonderful filly due to her status of not hailing from one of Ireland’s top yards. However, Patrick Prendergast has a superstar in his care after Skitter Scatter showed why she’s one of the top juvenile fillies this season in the Moyglare Stud Stakes.

Sent off as the 7/2 favourite, Skitter Scatter romped home under Ronan Whelan to make a mockery of the price she was sent off at. She’s taken some notable scalps this season now and has put herself firmly in the equation for next year’s 1000 Guineas, for which she is vying favouritism for.

It’s heartwarming when a yard which can be classed as a minnow has a horse of high quality, and this performance would’ve certainly woke the racing world up and make them notice what a top filly she is.

MADHMOON

From one Prendergast to another, as just 24 hours earlier, trainer Kevin Prendergast unearthed an incredibly smart juvenile in the shape of Madhmoon in a group two at Leopardstown.

The regally-bred juvenile travelled like a dream throughout and won with considerable daylight between him and some very useful juveniles.

The winning distance was two lengths, but it could’ve been further had he not been ridden with hands and heels, and Madhmoon is yet another high-class juvenile to throw his hat into the ring for next year’s classics.

VICTORY WAVE

The winter racing is coming up and the all-weather season will soon be in full swing, and Victory Wave could prove to be a horse to follow given the manner of his handicap win at Chelmsford on Saturday.

The Godolphin-owned horse took charge and landed the feature race – the Elsenham Handicap – in course record time.

Any horse that lands a race in record time, especially on the synthetic surface, normally proves to be a handy horse, and given there will be some lucrative prizes on offer throughout the winter, Victory Wave will certainly go in the notebooks of many racegoers.
