Today with our throwback race of the day we are looking back at last year's Betfair Hurdle at Newbury ahead of this terms renewal, with the Paul Nicholls trained Pic D'Orhy taking the spoils.
Newbury host a stellar card of racing on Saturday with some superb races on offer, but one of the stand out events is the Betfair Hurdle, that over the last few years has been won by some smart individuals.
Last year's resumption of the race saw Pic D'Orhy come away with the win next to his form book but it could have been by at least five horses jumping the last flight.
It was one of the closest renewals for sometime with plenty of horses in with a chance of winning the race but in the final stages the Paul Nicholls' trained gelding stayed on the best.
Pic D'Orhy has since gone on to race over fences and it really has not worked with him without a win in his three events and him falling on his second attempt over the bigger obstacles.
He is a horse with plenty of ability that is yet to fully show how good he can be and in this event last year, he gave the best performance of his career.
