Today sees the start of the Punchestown festival with five great days of action ready to shown and today we are looking back at the 2019 renewal of the Punchestown Gold Cup.
This great race over the years has seen some superb winners and Kemboy added himself to that list in 2019, seeing off Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Al Boum Photo in the process.
What was so special about this race was that it saw the last ever race ridden by the great Ruby Walsh, who announced his retirement after landing the Grade One.
Over the years Walsh has won nearly every major jumps event over both sides of the Irish sea, with him having a prolific record at the big spring festivals.
Kemboy was the horse to give him his last victory and that gelding has been superb for Willie Mullins over the last few years, landing numerous Grade Ones in Ireland and in England, but this performance was one of his best.
