Today we are looking back at the 2019 winner of the Chester Vase with the May festival on the Roodee set to get underway having been cancelled last term.
The Group Three Chester Vase is the feature event on day one of the meeting with the race being used as a Derby trial for many horses and in 2019 it produced the favourite for the race.
The Aidan O'Brien trained Sir Dragonet went on to take the event in emphatic style with the soft ground playing to his strengths and although not being able to do the same in the Derby, his win in the Vase was one of the most impressive seen for a while.
Sir Dragonet is now no longer with O'Brien and has moved down under winning Group One events and racing in the best middle distance events over there.
Although holding plenty of potential in England early on in his career, he never quite fulfilled it and now in Australia is looking to do that.
Enjoy his win in the Chester Vase!
