The feature race in mid-week at Newmarket is the Group Three Craven Stakes over a mile, acting as a trial for the 2000 Guineas and in 2018 it was won by the Epsom Derby winner Masar.
The retired Masar was a superstar for Godolphin and Charlie Appleby, thought to be a miler in his three year old season, when landing the Craven Stakes, he then went on to the 2000 Guineas and finished a superb third behind Saxon Warrior and Tip To Win.
Appleby after that race, straight away stepped him up in trip for the Epsom Derby and he stayed on superbly to take the event and give the handler a first success in the Classic event.
However, today we are looking back to where it finally all clicked for he horses and that was in 2018 at Newmarket in the Group Three event, where he saw off multiple Group One winner Roaring Lion to land the spoils.
Enjoy!
