Today we have decided to look back at one of Altior's greatest performances, with the superstar jumps horse retiring at the start of the week.
The 11 year old was retired by his connections on Monday, with trainer Nicky Henderson explaining he is fit and healthy and over the last few seasons had not been at the top of his game.
The gelding was arguably one of the greatest jumps horses of the last 20 years, being electric over two miles, winning 21 of his 26 races including 10 Grade One events.
Four of his Grade One wins came at the Cheltenham festival, never being beaten at Prestbury Park and that helped him come away with £1,320,795 career earnings.
We could pick many races where he was breathtaking in the finish or over his fences, but today we are looking back at his win in the Supreme Novices' Hurdle, with the field he beat looking like one of the best renewals of the Cheltenham festival opener for many years.
Enjoy!
