Today's throwback race of the day looks back at one of the best races over a staying trip that has been seen for the last few years with Stradivarius losing his long time winning streak to Kew Gardens on British Champions Day in 2019.
Last week at York showed Stradivarius and Spanish Mission going at it on the Knavesmire for the Lonsdale Cup, with the seven year old being headed twice and still battling back to win.
This reminded us of the 2019 renewal of the Long Distance Cup at Ascot and today we thought we would look back on the runs of both Stradivarius and Kew Gardens.
Having been the poster boy for the British staying division for the last few seasons, Kew Gardens managed to dethrone him in the last event of the season, seeing a 10 race winning run bought to an end.
Kew Gardens was retired to stud after that win, showing that two miles was close to his ideal trip and having been a St Leger winner in the past aswell, he should produce so nice offsprings.
Enjoy!
