Today we are looking back at the 2019 renewal of the Group One Vertem Futurity Stakes ahead of the contest for two year olds on Saturday.
Kameko for Andrew Balding was a superstar horse, who really announced himself at the top level when going on to take this Group One at Newcastle.
Due to Doncaster being waterlogged the race was moved to Gosforth Park on the all weather and in a 15 runner renewal he managed to see off a strong attack by Aidan O'Brien to take the race.
Not seen again until his three year old career, he picked up from where he left off by landing the 2000 Guineas on his first start back.
He then went on to finish a good fourth in the Epsom Derby, and although not performing to the best of his ability a few times after that, he did land one more race before the end of his career in the Group Two Joel Stakes.
Enjoy his run in the Group One Vertem Futurity Stakes.
