Trainer Jim Goldie will be looking to add his hot run of form on Friday, sending just the one runner on the 828 mile round trip from his yard up in Glasgow all the way down to Sandown this afternoon.
Whenever any horse travels a fair distance with just the one runner we like to highlight it, as we believe they would not be travelling all that way if they did not believe their runner had a real chance of going close.
The horse in question today is EUCHEN GLEN, who proved the candle still burns bright when winning the Brigadier Gerard over C&D back in May in ready fashion, and despite finishing only fifth in the Wolferton at Royal Ascot last time conditions were quick enough for him that day and he had the burden of his Group 3 penalty from his penultimate outing.
On ratings he is far superior to his rivals in this Listed event, with his closest rival Fox Tal (rated 8lbs inferior) having finished behind Jim Goldie’s gelding on a number of occasions and not always certain to give his running, and his main market rival John Leeper arriving off the back of a very tame effort in the Derby last month with serious questions to answer.
To add to this horses claims the yard have been ticking along nicely of late, operating at a fair 25% strike rate over the last fortnight, and the Scottish handler has had 8 wins from 60 runners (13%) when travelling at least this distance or further with his horses throughout his career, which makes this former Group 3 winner of real interest today.
Holds every chance.
