This year’s TWE flat trainer of the year goes to John Gosden. The Newmarket based trainer has a stronger Army of runners than at any time in his career and the proof of that is in the amount of major victories he has managed to pick up in 2018.
He had 169 winners at a strike rate of 25%. Both of those stats are higher than at any point in his 30 years as a horse trainer. He also accrued a record £8+ million in winnings.
He won 13 Group 1’s this season which was capped off with Enable’s victory at the Breeders Cup. That horse also won l’Arc. Gosden also picked up races that included the QEII stakes and the Champion Stakes at Champions day, the Dewhurst Stakes, the Irish Champion Stakes, the Juddmonte International Stakes, the Coral-Eclipse, the Ascot Gold Cup and the St James Palace Stakes.
His team of runners that include superstars such as Cracksman, Stradivarius, Roaring Lion, Enable and Without Parole is the envy of all of his rivals and there is every chance he can go on to have another ludicrously successful 2019.
Aiden O’Brien pushed his great rival closest. He won eight Group 1’s in the UK this year including the 2000 guineas, Oaks and St Leger. However, Gosden really has set the flat racing world alight this season and it is impossible to look past his achievement in the UK, Ireland, France and the USA.
